By looking for trouble every six months, we can often reduce your potential for large dental problems.

  • Tooth-by-tooth inspection
  • Occlusion/bite analysis
  • Gum disease assesment
  • Head and neck exams
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Dental Cleanings

Dental Cleanings

Getting your teeth and gums professionally cleaned and checked is the best way to keep your teeth and gums looking great and to prevent serious problems. During your cleaning, we'll assess your soft tissues, record the findings, and compare them with your last visit. Regular dental cleanings and checkups as part of your general dental care treatments to keep teeth and gums healthy for a lifetime. Regular maintenance visits every six months are recommendeded to keep gums healthy and strong.

Bitewing and Occlusal X-Rays

Bitewing X-rays show the upper and lower back teeth and how the teeth touch each other in a single view. These X-rays are used to check for decay between the teeth and to show how well the upper and lower teeth line up. They also show bone loss when severe gum disease or a dental infection is present.

Occlusal X-rays show the roof or floor of the mouth and are used to find extra teeth, teeth that have not yet broken through the gums, jaw fractures, a cleft in the roof of the mouth (cleft palate), cysts, abscesses, or growths. Occlusal X-rays may also be used to find a foreign object.

Sealants and Fluoride Treatments

Dental sealants and fluoride supplements may be recommeded during your checkup. In general, these preventative treatments can deter tooth decay. A sealant is a clear coating on the back teeth. It acts as a barrier against harmful sugars and starches causing tooth decay. This can greatly reduce the risk of cavities and is especially helpful for children.

Fluoride is a natural mineral that attracts other minerals to strengthen tooth enamel and help deter cavities. A small cavity can be stopped and even reversed by the remineralization process enhanced by fluoride. Both, adults and children can benefit from fluoride rinses. Fluoride alone will not prevent tooth decay. It is important to brush at least twice a day, floss regularly, eat balanced meals, reduce sugary snacks, and visit us on a regular basis.
